23rd annual Goman-Goku Bonsai Exibition

GG63

The Goman Goku bonsai show is hosted by Daijuen bonsai nursery at a performance theater in Okazaki Japan.  2013 marks the events 23rd year. It’s a small show, however the quality of trees is quite high in comparison to many regional bonsai shows of this size.

Daijuen and Aichien work very closely, so the Aichien crew (myself included) was on staff from set-up to take-down.  Not only that, but we all looked sharp in our bonsai show suits.

In this article we’ll take a photo tour of the show in it’s entirety.  There was no time for photos during the set up, so everything here is from the show itself.  It’s difficult for me to give proper credit/owner name for these trees so I tried my best to include the name plate in the photos if possible.  Maybe as I learn to read more Japanese I will be able to translate in the future.

Here we go!

My Senpai, Mr. Ken Fujiwara brought this cool white pine to the sales area. It looks like Mt.Fuji. Sold quickly! Nice tree.

These little guys accented one of the two shohin displays at this show. I think they're cool. Small bamboo figures. Nice gestures. Lots of life!

Here I am. Looking sharp before the show. Surprisingly I was able to keep this suite clean and in one piece during the show. Lucky! A bonsai apprentice in a suit is like a mechanic in tennis wear.
